As we move into spring, it’s important to keep the momentum going in reading growth. Each grade level is focusing on key skills that build strong, confident readers. In kindergarten, students are working hard to hear sounds inside words and blend them together to read new words.
First graders are strengthening their ability to recognize words with accuracy and automaticity, helping them become more independent readers.
In second grade, the focus is on reading fluency—reading passages correctly and automatically so their brains can focus on comprehension.
Let’s continue to support their progress and celebrate their growth as readers! Teachers continue to monitor the progress students are making and make adjustments to instruction!
Help at home....
- Read aloud at home! Kids love spending the time with their families! We want to foster a love of reading and books!
- Practice grade level spelling words. If your child's teacher sends home spelling words spend time reading and spelling them! This builds automaticity and makes it easier for students as they identify them in reading passages!
- Ask your student about their work they bring home in their backpacks. When you notice different activities they have completed at school, ask them to explain to you what they worked on and have them reread words and phrases from the worksheets they bring home!
All of these small acts make an impact! Our goal is to partner with you in building the success of your child!
